Bad start...
As a lv.12 E/R, I finally got bored with pre searing. So I moved on. So this is what happened...
I spent 4 hours exploring and fighting lv.4 opponents, which of course yield no XP whatsoever, then ran into my first mission. Something about finding a Charr invasion force and plans. With the help of my 4 little friends, an imp and a cat I spent another hour hunting useless lv.4 animals, till I ran into the goal of the mission... A bunch of Charrs, lv 8-9-10 Charrs. Suddenly a movie kicks in and by the end of that, we're surrounded by 12 Charr and there's no escape. So we all died... Is this what it's going to be from now on? If so... think I'm gonna be done real soon. I'm very disappointed. Not that I died, that's not the point, but there is no balance and no challenge in the gameplay whatso ever. I'm sure that now I know I'm gonna be jumped I'll do better, but that's no fun... Not what I hoped from the game. this way it feels like WoW, tedious. Ah well, try again tomorrow... All will be better. |

You were supposed to run. Not fight. The level curve is there. You're just looking for it in all the wrong places. |

HI,
I think part of the problem is you stayed in pre way to long. I usually leave as soon as I'm done with the quests about lvl 7 or 8. The first few quests in post are not that high because ppl leave pre sooner then you did. And yes lol the first time I did defend the wall I said what the hey after the cut scene my friends yelled run as they ran but dead I was. Up to you entirely whether you stay or go but I've been in WoW and GW is not WoW. You should really check the wiki and read up some on the missions. Not to much if you don't want to many spoilers but at least for an over view. http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page Good luck to you whichever you decide to do |

First of all, welcome to the game!
Next, there are twenty-five missions in GW Prophecies. Each mission has a main goal and a bonus goal. The main goal will usually be spelled out for you, but the bonus goal can sometimes take some hunting around. In general, the goals are not necessarily about just killing everything. In The Great Northern Wall, for instance, the cutscene toward the end should have given you the message that you were vastly outnumbered by Charr, and that the best course of action was to run back to the city and warn the guards. I think a text window even pops up to remind you. Generally, take those messages as directions, not just options. Though taking on the hordes of Charr may have seemed like the heroic thing to do, the greater story arc wants them to start attacking the city. You've spent a little longer in pre-searing than most characters, in my experience. This means that the first enemies you encounter in Ascalon city post-searing are going to be balanced toward a character with fewer levels. I think you'll find, though, that once you get to the edges of Ascalon and closer to the next area, the challenges will start to ramp up for you. Hope you stick with it for a bit and enjoy the game. |

The lesson of the Great Northern Wall mission is that discretion is the better part of valor. So, once the cut-scene ends, RUN! Go SOUTH! (not back the way you came)Don't stop to fight anything that may pop up or the Charrs will eat you!

try paying attention to objectives next time. as it was your first mission, you probably weren't used to the objective-based gameplay. of course, you were probably also bored as hell, so were half-assing it all the way to the cutscene--thats understandable.
pve gw is more of an objective-based game, where leveling plays a backseat. just try to progress the storyline as much as you can, and try not to worry too much about "leveling up". |

Prophecies is one of the more drawn out campaigns. Although one of best visually. Its a good place to start. Dont worry it gets better. Pretty soon the missions will pick up to a faster pace. By the time you get to the desert youll be lvl 20 and get all you attributes. The other campaigns (Factions,NF,and EotN) are much more action packed IMO. Wiki is your friend.
BTW, E/R was my first character ever going through prophecies 4 years ago, so I know what your going through. I still have the same melandrus stalker on her |

If you want more of a challenge in the Ascalon area, then don't use the imp and pet. The game gets better when you reach the Southern Shiverpeaks and the quests are geared to your current level. Check the wiki for a list of Missions and quests. Do all the quests even though they seem easy, because many of them give you free skills.

Prophecies is the more tricky out of the 3 campaigns and eotn. They actually require you to pay more attention.

You stayed in pre too long, which is why it seems really easy right now. The content will scale up to something more appropriate to your level shortly, just keep doing the missions (you'll often be teleported to the next mission after completion of a mission, and if you're not then there will be a person in the outpost you find yourself in with your next primary quest).

lol. nice.
General advice to happy gameplay is to try and play each mission at least once. If you keeping failing the mission, then read the wiki for help. The walkthroughs sometimes have spoilers but are otherwise easy to follow. Welcome and good luck!! |

Hi and welcome to Guild Wars.
yes it can be frustratiing since your lev12 and thought you could take the guys on . after the cutscene use the mouse and turn around and just keep running as you have a time factor. its ok for guys who know what to do but, at any mission areas have a look around and ask to join a party for the mission in question. BTW on one of my accounts i am doing all the early missions and I usually ask if anyone needs the mission.most guys do this also. so call out looking for partyand im sure you will get some assistance along the way. |

Thanx for the input everybody.
Yes, I already figured you're not supposed to win this fight. The mission was only to find them and report back. But it would be nice if you actually could escape. Now I know I don't have to try to fight I probably will escape, sure, but best fun is when you complete a mission without trying so many times, you know blindfolded what's gonna happen. Yes, I feared I stayed too long in pre, but so did all the others there, so I thought at first it was best to level up till 16 or so. I guess that's not the case. And I got bored long before than with pre. I'll keep playing for a while more though, if not only because the people are much more friendly than WoW. Not one flame in this topic, only helpful suggestions, that's amazing, (if you're used to WoW and their forums). I know wiki ofcourse, but I don't want to use it too much. Anyway, I'll keep at it, still enjoy the game, just got bummed out a bit by the overwhelming force I encountered. Didn't seemed fair. Grtzz |

Post-searing Ascalon can be a bit of letdown because of its drab architecture. Keep playing. There are still massive mountainranges, jungles and deserts to explore later on in Prophecies. The enemies will get harder when you'll get further into the story.
And after you've finished Prophecies...there's still Factions, Nightfall and the expansion Eye of the North waiting for you. Actually, I am kinda jealous. I wish I could experience everything for the first time again -- Oh, and there are a good bunch of trolls and flamers on this forum too. Just ignore those |

Even level 20 characters who can fight that massive horde of Charr and not die will fail the mission if they fight. Since there goal is to report back to the officer at the Wall you have to get there before the Charr do. If you notice, there is a timer that pops up. Staying to fight the Charr can be fun if you are able to, but you will still fail the mission if you don't reach the NPC in the time provided.

Do the missions and primary and skill quests in Old Ascalon and then get out of it.
After pre-searing Ascalon post-searing Old Ascalon looks so crappy. It demotivated me aswell to continue playing. I did get back later though to do secondary quests and explore every area fully for the Carthographer Title. That mission, i tried it again at lvl20 and with lvl20 heroes. We defeated that large Charr horde, BUT then did not get back to the Wall in time. Last edited by dagrdagaz; May 07, 2010 at 11:45 AM // 11:45.. |

People stay in pre-searing working on their Legendary Defender of Ascalon title which is to get to level 20 in pre. Or, like me, they are farming the daily gifts from Nicholas Sandford.
